A grant is money you keep. A tax relief lowers a bill rather than arriving as cash. In-kind support is training, credits or expert time instead of money. Loans and equity have to be paid back or bought back, and are worth treating as a different decision entirely.

How to apply
You apply to the funder, never to us. Every scheme above links straight to its own page, and that page is the only thing that decides whether you get it.
Before you spend an afternoon on a form, three things are worth checking: that you are inside the deadline — 42 of these close within the month; that you have not already started or paid for the work, which a great many grants refuse; and that you can fund the share they expect you to.
Most refusals are not close calls. They are a rule the applicant never saw, in a sentence on the funder’s own page.

Innovate UK, working with the Department for Transport, is offering grant funding for collaborative projects that build and then run innovative alternative-fuel vessels and the port refuelling infrastructure that goes with them. Projects must be led by a UK registered business, cost between £6 million and £60 million in total eligible costs, and must demonstrate the technology in real world operation for three years without further grant support. This page covers the Alternative Fuels strand only; two other strands cover electric power and energy efficiency.

A £50 million capital grant pilot for very large life sciences R&D investments in the UK, aimed at building health resilience, innovation and economic benefit. Only projects costing at least £100 million in total are eligible, and grants are typically pitched at 10-20% of project cost with an overall cap of £25 million per award. Applications are made on a rolling basis via an Expression of Interest, and the pilot runs until 31 March 2028 or until funds are allocated.

Innovate UK, working with the Department for Business and Trade and the Advanced Propulsion Centre, is offering a share of up to £20 million for late stage collaborative research and development in the automotive sector. Projects must help the UK move towards zero emission vehicles and a net zero automotive industry, and must be led by a UK registered business working with other UK registered organisations. Grant requests run from £2.5 million to £20 million and must be matched by at least 50% of total eligible project costs.

A competition offering grants to UK registered organisations that want to build or convert pilot-scale or demonstration-scale manufacturing facilities for zero emission vehicle technologies and their supply chain. Grant requests must sit between £2.5 million and £20 million, with total eligible project costs above £5 million, and applicants must show they can unlock private co-investment worth at least twice the grant. Projects are expected to start from 1 June 2027 and finish by 31 March 2030.

Large-scale funding for UK heritage projects, from £250,000 up to £10 million (exceptional projects over £10m may be considered on request). Not-for-profit organisations, or partnerships led by one, apply first with an Expression of Interest; successful projects go through a development phase (up to 2 years) and a delivery phase (up to 5 years). Applicants must contribute 5% (grants under £1m) or 10% (grants over £1m) of project costs as partnership funding.

A UK-wide venture capital scheme that helps eligible companies raise capital by offering income and capital gains tax reliefs to investors who buy new shares. Companies can raise up to £5 million a year, or £12 million over their lifetime, subject to size and trading conditions.

AHRC will fund up to two "Showcase Labs" that host national creative research and development infrastructure for the UK screen and performance industries, as part of the CoSTAR Network. Applications must be led by a UK research organisation eligible for AHRC funding, heading a consortium that includes at least one commercial or industry co-location partner and at least one local or combined authority or equivalent economic development body. Businesses cannot apply directly but can join a bid as a partner or collaborator and receive funding that way; each award covers up to £4 million of full economic cost, with AHRC paying 80% and third party match funding of at least 50% of the requested cost required.

Innovate UK is offering a share of up to £13 million for collaborative research and development projects that build quantum computing software applications with clear commercial or societal value on near-term quantum systems. Innovate UK is offering grant funding from a £33 million pot for collaborative projects that develop hardware, at device level, and the software that goes with it, aimed at the scale, programmability and runtime performance required by universal fault tolerant quantum computers. Applications must come from collaborations, and the lead partner has to be a UK registered business or a research and technology organisation. This is an expression of interest stage to select Flexibility Service Providers for Phase 1 of a Demand Turn Up trial testing whether rebating Final Consumption Levies makes it cheaper to increase electricity demand than to curtail renewable generation. No money is awarded at the EOI stage itself; successful applicants may be invited to a later award stage where grant funding is capped at £3 million per provider, out of a total trial investment of up to £16 million. Applicants must be UK registered businesses or not-for-profits acting as flexibility providers in the Great Britain electricity sector, ready to start live delivery on 1 December 2026.

Annual Investment Allowance lets a business deduct the full value of qualifying plant and machinery, up to £1 million per accounting period, from its profits before tax rather than spreading the deduction over several years via writing down allowances. It excludes business cars, items owned for another purpose before being brought into business use, and items given to the business. Spend above the AIA amount can be claimed as first-year allowances or writing down allowances instead.

Innovate UK is making up to £12 million available for collaborative industrial research projects that speed up the translation and adoption of advanced materials innovations. DCMS is looking for one or more delivery partners (or a consortium) to run a three-year pilot that uses gaming to reach boys aged 11-16 who may be lonely, isolated or withdrawn, combining in-person sessions with a safe, moderated online offer. Applicants must be a Local Authority in England or a charitable, benevolent or philanthropic institution (which can include CICs and not-for-profit companies limited by guarantee) that has been operating for at least two years.

Most startups can receive up to $200,000, and AI-first startups in the more advanced Scale tier can receive up to $350,000. The Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme lets an early-stage company raise up to £250,000 by issuing new shares to individual investors, who receive tax relief in return. The company must be UK-established, not listed on a recognised stock exchange, hold gross assets of £350,000 or less, and have fewer than 25 full-time-equivalent employees when the shares are issued.
